As a Virginia-based wedding photographer, I have been to my fair share of venues throughout the state and have been able to experience some amazing weddings. Richmond is one of my favorite places to go for weddings, and there are so many beautiful venues throughout the city to choose from.

Best Outdoor Wedding Venues in Richmond, VA
Dover Hall
Built back in 2000, Dover Hall is a beautiful Tudor-style mansion that sits on 55 acres of private land, giving you the perfect intimate getaway right outside of the city. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and make you feel like you’ve jetted away to Europe for your perfect wedding day.
Not only is the venue beautiful but there is also plenty of space throughout. There are two rooms where you and your wedding parties can get ready (the Queen Elizabeth suite and the Billards Room), and trust me when I say you will have plenty of room to get ready.
When it comes to your ceremony, there are a few different outdoor options you can choose from, including the Reflecting Pool, Rose Garden, Bluestone Terrace, Cobblestone Court, and a two-tiered garden. During your cocktail hour, guests are able to explore the grounds and the mansion a bit and take in the beauty that is Dover Hall.
Once you are ready for your reception, you can head into the Ballroom or their new Glass Terrace to celebrate with all of your friends and family and dance the night away with your new spouse. You truly couldn’t ask for anything more when it comes to a dream venue.
The Estate at River Run
The Estate at River Run is a beautiful property that features amazing outdoor grounds, but there is also a stunning mansion that creates the perfect backdrop for your wedding. The mansion itself was built back in the 1980s, and the grounds sit right on the James River, so you get the perfect mix of greenery and a beautiful waterway.
When it comes to your wedding itself, they have an amazing suite where you can get ready with your wedding party to walk down the aisle. For your outdoor wedding ceremony, you can choose from the Bluestone Terrace, Upper Terrace, or Front Lawn. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Both terraces give amazing views of the river, and the Front Lawn will give you the perfect ceremony location with the beautiful mansion as your backdrop.
For your cocktail hour and reception, there is a poolside location, and three different ballrooms that you can choose from that will give you the perfect place to celebrate this special day with all of the people closest in your life!
Seven Springs
Is a mountain escape more of your vibe? Seven Springs should definitely be on your list, then. This amazing mountain resort is not only a beautiful place to stay, but it is an even more beautiful place to say I do.
While there are a few different options of locations throughout the resort to have your ceremony, the Meadows offers the perfect storybook spot for the beginning of your happily ever after. Nestled in the woods, you have a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere with natural wood benches for your guests that give this space the perfect mountain feel. Plus, you can fit up to 300 guests, making it perfect for small or large weddings.
Once you have tied the knot, you can choose from a few different spots to have your reception. The Exhibit Hall is perfect for larger weddings and has beautiful stonework along the walls. You can also cheers to your new marriage under twinkle lights in the Alpine Room for the perfect mountain chalet vibe!
Hidden Oaks
Hidden Oaks is one of the more unique outdoor wedding venues in Richmond, VA. The venue features a beautiful outdoor area with a stunning greenhouse reception hall that has floor-to-ceiling windows along the walls.
The venue can accommodate up to 350 people, and you can make your grand entrance to your ceremony across a one-of-a-kind bridge. You will say I do in front of the grand wooden doors to the greenhouse and then celebrate your marriage with all of the people closest to you inside the greenhouse.
If you’re planning on having a fall wedding and want to capture the beautiful colors of the changing trees in your photos, The Hidden Oaks is a great choice for you. The greenhouse is surrounded by massive trees giving you the perfect fall backdrop.
Oakdale RVA
The Oakdale RVA is the perfect mix of farmland and luxury. The grounds themselves have beautiful views of the countryside, there are three different ponds around the property that add a beautiful touch to your photos, and the sunsets are just incredible.
There are a few different spots you can choose for your ceremony, from pond views to countryside backdrops. The climate-controlled barn makes for the perfect reception venue. It is the perfect mix of rustic and luxurious and even has an outdoor patio where you can take in the amazing views of the property.
This venue is also amazing if you are looking for the perfect spot to catch fall colors in your photos. There are beautiful trees that cover the property and give you the ideal fall backdrop! Plus, the venue can accommodate up to 200 guests, so big or small, they have you covered!
Amber Grove
When it comes to outdoor wedding venues in Richmond, VA, Amber Grove is another one that you don’t want to miss out on. The venue is surrounded by beautiful trees and open land making it the perfect backdrop for any wedding.
When it comes to your ceremony, you can say “I do” in a beautiful gazebo or in front of a 200-year-old oak tree. Either option will give you a stunning ceremony location that you will remember forever.
You can keep the party going and dance the night away under a beautiful white tent. The grounds also have gardens with bright flowers that can add the perfect pop to your dream wedding day!
The Mill at Fine Creek
Last but certainly not least is The Mill at Fine Creek. This venue is absolutely amazing. Not only is the atmosphere one of a kind, but you also have a beautiful creek running through the property that just makes it even more magical.
For your ceremony, they have three different outdoor locations you can choose from that are all just as beautiful as the next. Whether you want to tie the knot nestled in the trees, standing in the ruins of the old mill, or with the creek running right behind you, they have you covered.
The reception hall is just as beautiful as the ceremony locations and has a porch that wraps around the building so you can take in all of the amazing views of the property. To make your day even better, they have a culinary team in-house that will work with you to curate the perfect made-from-scratch menu for you and your guests!
