When I say the Wintergreen Resort wedding venue is one of my FAVORITE wedding venues, I am not joking. This venue is just absolutely amazing. From the views to the accommodations to the food, you really could not ask for anything better in your dream wedding venue.
I had the honor of capturing Stephanie and Michael’s wedding here back in 2022, and it is still one of my all-time favorite galleries. Everything about this wedding was a dream, and a big part of that was the Wintergreen Resort wedding team and the amazing work they did.
If you are wondering what a Wintergreen Resort wedding actually looks like, look no further! Let’s dive into a few of the amazing aspects of this venue and how Steph and Michael turned it into their dream wedding.
What Does a Wintergreen Resort Wedding Look Like?
Location and Activities
Wintergreen Resort is a mountain resort on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains (and if you know anything about these mountains, you know that they are beautiful). One of the best things about this resort is that it is a four-season resort, so regardless of when you are planning your wedding, you are going to have an amazing experience.
The property at the Wintergreen Resort spans 11,000 acres and has just about anything you could possibly want. This makes it an amazing venue for your wedding if you are having a destination wedding or want to turn your wedding day into a whole week/weekend with your friends and family.
Not only does the resort have great lodging options (which I’ll touch on next), but there are also plenty of activities for you and your family and friends to enjoy together before and after your wedding.
Fan of golf? There are two golf courses here with a total of 45 holes to play! Feel more comfortable with a racket in your hand instead of a club? They have a total of 19 tennis courts (16 outdoor and 3 indoor) and 14 pickleball courts (6 indoor and 8 outdoor).
There is also a lake, a kid’s adventure center, an aquatic and fitness center, hiking trails, ski slopes, the largest tubing hill in the whole state, and a spa for those of us who want to take it a bit easy.
Honestly, there’s not much you can’t do here, giving you the perfect place to have not only an amazing wedding day but an entire trip with your closest friends and family that you will never forget!
Accommodations
If you are planning on staying at the resort around your wedding, you have so many amazing options to choose from standard guest rooms to condos and homes to exclusive properties. Each of these options is unique. No two rooms here are going to be the same!
The guest rooms can sleep anywhere from 2-4 people and are perfect for smaller groups or if you just want to spend a single night here after your wedding. If you are planning on a bigger trip with your families, the condos and homes are great options. The condos range from 1 to 5 bedrooms, and the homes range from 3 to 6 bedrooms.
For a one-of-a-kind wedding weekend, you can even stay in one of their exclusive properties. These include 9 and 10-bedroom homes that can sleep between 18 to 20 people! This means all of your wedding parties can stay together in one house, which is sure to give you a weekend that you will never forget!
Venues
When it comes to where to say I do, there is no shortage of options at the resort. There are 4 different (stunning) outdoor locations to choose from and 12 indoor ones. The different locations can accommodate anywhere from 40 to 600 people, so regardless of how big or small your wedding is, they have you covered.
The real gems of this venue are the outdoor locations, though. Not only are they beautiful by themselves, but the views from them just make them so much better. I mean, what more could you ask for than saying I do with stunning, unobstructed mountain views right behind you?
Food and Drinks
Finally, we have the food and drinks, which, let’s be honest, is a pretty important part when it comes to weddings. I can tell you the Wintergreen Resort wedding team does this so well. The resort has full-service catering and drink services, and you couldn’t ask for much more.
You have a few different options for the types of services you want for both your food and your drinks. When it comes to food, they have a long list of Hors d’ oeuvres you can pick from, as well as options for action and carving stations, plated dinners, and buffets. Their menus are extensive and have options for almost anything you could want.
There are even multiple options you can choose from when it comes to bar services. Whether you want a cash bar, consumption bar, or bar services, they have you covered. They even have three different options for bar services depending on the quality of liquor you want to have!

About the Couple
Steph and Michael were such a joy to work with. They wanted their wedding day to be an emphasis of love and really focus on the people they chose to spend it with. All of the details were a labor of love and full of intention, and I think I can confidently say no one wanted the party to stop at the end of the night. This was one of those wedding days where it was simultaneously so exciting and a little bittersweet to deliver their wedding gallery, because I just didn’t want it to end!
Getting Ready and First Look
Honestly, everything about this wedding and capturing this couple was absolutely amazing! We had such a great time while they were getting ready, and they all had plenty of space to get ready without being on top of each other. Thanks to the abundance of lodging at Wintergreen Steph and Michael were able to get ready in separate condos and meet for their first look!
When it came time to do their first look, we were able to head out to a beautiful area with a view of the mountains. They got married in September and had stunning green grass and trees surrounding them to make the perfect backdrop.
This area was everything you could have asked for and more for a first look. It created photos that are unforgettable and was hands down the best place to capture this intimate moment between them.
The Ceremony
For the ceremony, they opted for an outdoor venue with amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They had the perfect setup right on the lawn and were able to seal the deal with the mountains as their backdrop.
There was also plenty of room for their wedding parties and all of their guests. When it comes to mountain overlooks, you sometimes run into the issue of the area being a bit smaller, but there was so much room for everyone to enjoy this special moment.
Party Time!
Finally, it was time to party, and that is exactly what they did. They had their reception right out on the terrace, and first of all, this terrace is so beautiful. The red brick walkways really pop against the greenery around, and of course, you still have amazing views of the mountains.
There is also a stone wall around the terrace that is so unique and just adds to the beauty of this venue!
We were also able to escape for a few minutes and catch some sunset photos with Stephanie and Michael. Let me tell you, if you’re looking for a great place to get golden hour photos on your wedding day, the Wintergreen Resort does not disappoint!
I also loved that this was a fully open reception area. Instead of having a tent over the area, they just had some string lights over the terrace, and it created a magical feeling while also not blocking out any of the amazing views you get.
When it is time to hit the dance floor, you will have plenty of room, and no worries; your DJ will have their own area to set up, so you don’t lose any dance floor space! As the sun went down, the party ramped up, and everyone had so much fun dancing the night away.
Final Thoughts on a Wintergreen Resort Wedding
I honestly can’t recommend the Wintergreen Resort wedding venue enough. They really do help you cover all of your bases, and it is the perfect spot for an enchanting night or a weekend filled with friends and family that you will remember for the rest of your lives!
