The Perfect Common House Charlottesville Wedding

March 8, 2024

There are so many different wedding venues out there, but as a wedding photographer myself, I can tell you that not all of them are created equal. Some just stand out from others, and one of those is the Common House Charlottesville wedding venue.

This has become one of my favorite wedding venues to photograph at (I’m even on their preferred vendors list!) and there are so many reasons why this is such an amazing venue for your wedding.

So, if you are looking for a unique wedding venue that has amazing vibes, take a look at the Common House Charlottesville wedding venue.

About the Venue

The Common House is a social club created to help people connect and give them a space to not only come together, but to work, eat, relax, and enjoy events together as a community!

Although this is the original location, the owners and creators of this space have since gone on to open additional Common House locations in places like Richmond and Chattanooga.

Each one of these spaces are so beautifully designed and not only create a space for people to gather together and have fun, but also a space that celebrates the architecture and history of the specific building.

This means that each of the locations have their own unique feel and vibe to them which make them incredible places to be around.

Different Spaces at the Venue

The Common House in Charlottesville is actually separated out into a few different spaces. This means that when it comes to your wedding, you have a couple of options to choose from when it comes to where your wedding is actually going to be!

Vinegar Hall

Starting off, we have Vinegar Hall. This is actually the main event space at this location and is the largest space at the venue. The hall can actually be split up into two different sections (north and south) or combined into one larger room.

This space has beautiful wood floors and murals painted on the walls that add so much character and life to the space. The walls are also painted a little darker, giving the space a bit of a moody vibe while still having a ton of light!

Combined, the full hall can accommodate about 70 guests for a seated dinner and the north and south sides of the hall can accommodate 35 guests and 15 guests respectively.

Not only do you get the space itself, but there is also a bar that is included right in the space making it easy for serving drinks throughout the night!

Rooftop Terrace

If something outdoors is more your vibe, you can head up to the Rooftop Terrace. This space is so beautiful and is one of the best parts about the venue. From the rooftop, you get panoramic views of the surrounding area and mountains and the views just can’t be beat.

This spot is a bit smaller than Vinegar Hall. The maximum capacity for a seated event caps out at about 30 guests so this is a great option if you are planning a more intimate wedding!

The Rooftop Terrace gives you the opportunity to say I do with the beautiful city skyline as your backdrop and then dance the night away under the stars. What more could you ask for!

Library

The Library is the smallest space at the Common House Charlottesville wedding venue. This is perfect for a small elopement or micro-wedding with the maximum capacity being 15 for a seated dinner.

This could also be a great option for a small rehearsal dinner! This room has a really cozy feel to it and is lined with bright blue bookcases stacked with books. This really is the perfect intimate escape and is such a unique piece of this venue!

Full Club

If you’ve gotten this far and are thinking to yourself, “I can’t pick which location I want to choose for my wedding,” the good news is, you don’t have to!

They do have the option for you to rent out the entire club. This means that you can have access to all three floors of the venue, which includes their amazing rooftop terrace. This gives you a ton of flexibility when it comes to planning your wedding.

Keep in mind though, the full club buyout option is not available every day. They generally allow this on Sundays and Monday evenings – although there are other dates throughout the year that you can also rent out the full club!

Things to Know

Now that we have talked a bit about the venue itself, let’s dive into some of the important things you should know about a Common House Charlottesville wedding.

Their rentals are all-inclusive

Yes, this means that everything you could need is going to be included in your rental! Not only do you get to choose which space (or the whole club) you want for your wedding, but they will also provide you with basically everything else you could need.

All of the tables, chairs, plates, glassware, etc are  all included in your rental of the space and they will even set these up for you! While they do provide these for you, you are also welcome to add your own touches to these pieces as well.

They even have an AV set up so they have you covered with mics, speakers, projectors, etc. But, one of the best parts about this venue is that the food and drinks are also included in the price!

The food and drinks for your wedding will definitely be top notch. They have world class chefs that will work with you to create a locally sourced menu for your wedding reception. You’ll also be able to work with a sommelier to create the perfect drink pairings for your wedding.

On top of all of that, they will also provide you with bartenders and servers for your wedding! There is also a manager on duty that will work with your wedding planner the day of the event in case anything comes up!

All food and drinks are done in house

I know I mentioned it a little bit, but it deserves its own callout. Having all of your food and drinks done in house is such a bonus and makes the wedding planning and coordination so much easier.

Not only are you going to have an incredible meal created by outstanding chefs, but they will also be able to prep, cook, and serve the meal right on site. They have a few different options when it comes to the food and drinks for your wedding.

For the meals, you can pick between things like a family style meal, stationery hors d’oeuvres, and passed canapés. These are all going to be locally sourced menus and you will not be disappointed by what you get!

When it comes to the drinks for your wedding, you can work with their sommelier to create the perfect pairings for your receptions. They also have a few different drink packages ranging from premium liquors and wines to house liquor.

You don’t need a membership

Finally, while you normally do need a membership to go to a Common House location, you don’t need a membership to have your wedding at the Common House. This means that if you have been eyeing this venue or have always wanted to try it out, you can have your wedding here without purchasing a membership.

However, if you do happen to have a membership, it doesn’t hurt! They do have discounts for members for the different event space fees and they even have some exclusive rooms that you are able to book as a member!
