Heartfelt Maternity Session at Boars Head Resort

So, I think the title of this really says it all. There IS a first time for everything. This just happens to be a whole lot of firsts at once! My first blog post (woo!), first maternity shoot, and -most importantly- this amazing couple’s first BABY!

I’ve known Will for a few years now. We worked together at the same summer camp in 2017 and have managed to keep in touch ever since. He reached out about wanting to do something special for his wife, Tirzah, and surprise her with maternity photos. Obviously, I had to say yes! It’s something I’ve never done before and I was admittedly very nervous. I didn’t want to mess up such important photos for my friends. I had a lot of faith in myself and said yes anyways though. I then spent a really long time researching posing that works best for expecting moms and flattering poses for parents-to-be.

Of course first on my list were some classic baby bump shots

Then they had this fun idea of comparing belly sizes, which I absolutely love, and was especially funny in the moment.

We were going for a cute shot of Will kissing the baby, but it ended up with all of us laughing hysterically. I ended up loving the photos of their natural chemistry and laughter even more than the original shot!

I wanted to include some of my favorites next. We decided to shoot at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville (funny enough I work there now, and Will worked there a year or two ago and it took us 2 weeks to come up with this no brainer). It was HOT this day. I’m talking 98 degrees and so humid it felt like you were breathing soup. We opted to plan this shoot as late as we possibly could for the comfort of everyone involved. That meant shooting at 8pm and catching some absolutely stunning light. Here are some shots that showcase Tirzah’s incredible beauty.

It is so obvious the love that these two share. I was honored to be able to capture it. Below I’ve added some pictures that really showcase the two of them and how strong their relationship is. They love each other so much, and I know they are going to be the best parents ever.

I am an absolute sucker for some good black and white photos. All the feels come rushing out when I see them. So as I end my very first blog post, I’ll leave you with some of my favorite photos of the shoot. Enjoy!
